NYOS Nitrate Minus

NYOS Nitrate Minus supplies organic carbon to bacteria that incorporate nitrate and a small amount of phosphate into their biomass. An efficient protein skimmer then removes the bacteria and the nutrients bound within them from the aquarium system.

The product is suitable for reef aquariums where nitrate remains above the desired level because of fish stocking, feeding, or ongoing organic input. NYOS recommends maintaining nitrate at approximately 5–15 mg/l.

The dual formula combines rapidly available and longer-lasting components, helping maintain more consistent bacterial activity between daily doses.

Dosage

Standard dosage

10 ml per 1,000 litres daily

When nitrate is below the target level

5 ml per 1,000 litres daily or discontinue treatment

When nitrate is far above the target or falling too slowly

Up to 20 ml per 1,000 litres daily

Monitor nitrate at least weekly and adjust the dose gradually.

Instructions

1. Measure nitrate and phosphate before use.
2. Calculate the actual system water volume.
3. Ensure efficient protein skimming and gas exchange.
4. Begin conservatively when carbon dosing is new to the aquarium.
5. Dose daily in an area with strong circulation.
6. Do not apply the concentrate directly to corals or fish.
7. Use a calibrated dosing pump when possible.
8. Test nitrate and phosphate regularly.
9. Reduce or stop dosing when nitrate drops below the target.
10. Stop dosing if the water becomes milky or cloudy.
11. Increase surface agitation if bacterial growth reduces oxygen availability.
12. Store the product according to its current safety label.
