Hobby Catappa Bark is a natural water-conditioning product for freshwater aquariums. The dried bark releases humic substances and tannins that can give the water an amber-brown colour similar to tropical forest streams and leaf-litter habitats.

The bark is particularly suitable for bettas, discus, catfish, tropical community fish, shrimp, and crayfish. It can be used in community tanks, blackwater aquariums, breeding systems, transport water, and prepared replacement water.

The bark’s natural compounds support the protective mucus layer of fish and create conditions associated with the natural habitats of many tropical aquarium species. The product is not a veterinary medicine and does not replace appropriate diagnosis or treatment.

Used bark can remain inside the aquarium after its strongest conditioning effect has ended. Shrimp and other small inhabitants can graze on the developing biofilm.

Dosage and use

Add:

One piece per approximately 100 litres of aquarium water.

1. Rinse the bark lightly with clean water.
2. Place it directly into the aquarium.
3. Allow it to sink naturally.
4. Pour hot water over it when faster sinking or release is required.
5. Monitor water colour and pH.
6. Add a new piece after approximately three weeks.
7. Leave the old bark as shrimp food and shelter or remove it.
8. Consider other catappa and humic products when calculating the total amount.
