Korallen-Zucht ZEOvit for Automatic Filters is a premium natural zeolite blend for automatic and conventional ZEOvit reactors. Its larger grain size reduces jamming inside automated filter mechanisms. When used with ZEObak and ZEOstart, ZEOvit supports controlled nitrate and phosphate reduction and helps create low-nutrient water conditions resembling a natural coral reef.

Korallen-Zucht ZEOvit for Automatic Filters is a carefully balanced blend of high-quality natural zeolites for marine and reef aquariums. It is designed especially for automatic ZEOvit filters that shake or move the media at programmed intervals.

The larger grain size reduces the risk of the media becoming wedged inside the reactor. It supports reliable automatic cleaning and even water movement through the media bed. The product can also be used in conventional manually operated ZEOvit filters.

Foundation of the ZEOvit system

ZEOvit forms the foundation of the Korallen-Zucht nutrient-management method together with ZEObak and ZEOstart. The method supports the biological processing of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds and helps establish low-nutrient reef conditions.

ZEObak introduces selected bacterial cultures, while ZEOstart provides an appropriate carbon source. The ZEOvit material provides an effective environment for the bacterial community.

Controlled nutrient levels can support natural coral coloration, tissue condition, and skeletal growth. Nutrients should not be reduced too rapidly or maintained permanently at completely undetectable levels.

Flow rate

The maximum recommended flow is:

400 litres per hour for each litre of ZEOvit media.

Examples:

  • 0.25 l ZEOvit: maximum 100 l/h
  • 0.5 l ZEOvit: maximum 200 l/h
  • 0.75 l ZEOvit: maximum 300 l/h
  • 1 l ZEOvit: maximum 400 l/h

The preferred flow direction is from the bottom upwards. The media must remain completely submerged.

Media cleaning

Automatic reactors move the media at programmed intervals to remove accumulated detritus and bacterial biomass.

In a conventional ZEOvit filter, move the cleaning rod up and down daily. The released bacterial material can enter the aquarium, where some corals and filter-feeding organisms may use it as food.

Media replacement

Replace ZEOvit approximately every 6–8 weeks. The exact interval depends on aquarium load, water flow, dosing, and nutrient conditions.

When converting an established aquarium to the ZEOvit method, begin with reduced media quantities and flow when necessary. Sudden reductions in nitrate and phosphate may stress corals adapted to higher nutrient levels.

  • Suitable for SPS, LPS, and mixed reef systems
  • Package size: 1 litre

Dosage

Use:

1 litre of ZEOvit media per 400 litres of actual aquarium-system water volume.

Examples:

  • 100 l system: 0.25 l
  • 200 l system: 0.5 l
  • 300 l system: 0.75 l
  • 400 l system: 1 l
  • 800 l system: 2 l
  • 1,200 l system: 3 l

Base the quantity on the actual net water volume after accounting for rock, substrate, equipment, and decoration.

Instructions

  1. Calculate the actual system water volume.
  2. Measure the required amount of ZEOvit.
  3. Rinse the media with clean water.
  4. Add the media to an automatic or conventional ZEOvit reactor.
  5. Keep the media completely submerged.
  6. Use bottom-to-top water flow when possible.
  7. Do not exceed 400 l/h per litre of media.
  8. Program the automatic filter according to its instructions.
  9. Shake conventional filters manually every day.
  10. Use ZEObak and ZEOstart according to the ZEOvit method.
  11. Monitor nitrate, phosphate, and coral condition.
  12. Replace the media approximately every 6–8 weeks.
  13. Make only one significant system change at a time.
  14. Avoid excessively rapid nutrient reduction.
