Hobby Crown Wood XL

Natural root wood for the aquarium and the terrarium, size XL. The roots branch like crowns and every piece is individual.

Where they come from: the roots are collected in Central America from the Madre de Cacao tree. The manufacturer states that no living wood is taken from the forests.

Humic acids: in an aquarium the root releases humic acids into the water. They affect the wellbeing of the fish, promote plant growth and hold back algae – the same mechanism as catappa leaves, but slower and longer lasting.

Use: in an aquarium the root gives cover, in a terrarium a climbing structure. Epiphytic plants – anubias, bucephalandra and mosses – can be tied to it, which makes the tank look like a piece of nature. It also suits rodents.

Before use: soak the wood for a few days, changing the water in between. That takes out some of the colourants so the tank browns less. Fresh wood also floats until it has taken up water.
