Tunze DOC Skimmer 9415 is a sump-mounted protein skimmer designed for nutrient control in large marine and reef aquariums. It removes dissolved organic compounds before they break down into nitrate and phosphate. Intensive mixing of air and water also promotes gas exchange and supports a high oxygen level.

The skimmer produces large quantities of fine air bubbles. Dissolved organic compounds attach to their surfaces and rise through the foam reactor into the two-litre collection cup. Removing organic waste before decomposition helps maintain clear water and more stable conditions for marine fish and corals.

DOC Skimmer 9415 is suitable for fish-only marine aquariums, soft coral systems, LPS reefs, mixed reefs, and appropriately sized SPS-dominated aquariums. The nominal maximum recommendation is 1,500 litres, but the practical aquarium capacity depends on coral sensitivity, fish population, feeding, and additional nutrient-export methods.

Hydrofoamer Silence

The Hydrofoamer Silence pump creates an effective mixture of air and water with quiet operation. It delivers an air capacity of 1,000 litres per hour and a water flow rate of 900 litres per hour.

Power consumption is only 15 W, making the skimmer economical for continuous operation. An integrated air silencer reduces intake noise and makes the skimmer suitable for aquariums installed in living spaces.

Automatic overfoaming protection

The Tunze Anti-Overfoaming System helps prevent the collection cup from overflowing. Water conditioners, additives, coral adhesives, new filtration media, and accidental contaminants can cause sudden changes in water surface tension and excessive foam production.

When excessive foam is detected, the system automatically limits skimming activity. Normal operation resumes after the aquarium conditions stabilize.

Two-litre collection cup

The large two-litre collection cup provides ample capacity for the waste produced by a high-performance skimmer. Its generous size reduces the required emptying frequency.

The collection cup and foam reactor can be removed for cleaning. Clean the cup neck regularly because accumulated organic deposits gradually restrict foam movement and reduce skimming performance.

The skimming result can be adjusted towards wetter or drier collection. Dry skimming produces darker and more concentrated waste, while wet skimming fills the cup more quickly with lighter liquid.

Removable post-filter

A compatible post-filter can capture fine suspended particles and help reduce microbubbles returning to the sump.

Compatible filtration media, including activated carbon or phosphate absorber, can also be placed inside the post-filter. The media must not restrict water flow and should be cleaned or replaced regularly.

Stable operation

DOC Skimmer 9415 operates at an immersion depth of 100–200 mm without requiring a separate water-level adjustment. This makes installation straightforward in different sump configurations.

A stable sump water level still provides the most consistent skimming result. Install the skimmer in a chamber where evaporation and return-pump operation do not change the water depth.

Aquarium sizing

The 1,500-litre maximum recommendation is intended for marine systems with relatively low sensitivity to dissolved organic compounds. More sensitive reef systems require more conservative sizing.

  • Soft coral, leather coral, and anemone aquariums: up to approximately 1,500 litres
  • LPS and mixed reef aquariums: up to approximately 900 litres
  • SPS-dominated reef aquariums: up to approximately 600 litres
  • Heavily stocked SPS aquariums: up to approximately 450 litres

These recommendations are approximate. Intensive feeding, a large fish population, or using the skimmer as the primary nutrient-export method may require a larger skimmer.
