Tunze Comline® Filter 3162

Tunze Comline Filter 3162 provides mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration in a compact internal unit. It combines surface intake, adjustable lower-zone intake, a versatile media chamber, and an energy-efficient pump.

The filter is suitable for freshwater and marine aquariums from 60 to 400 litres, depending on biological load. It can operate as the primary filter in a smaller aquarium or as supplementary filtration in a larger system.

Internal installation requires no external tubing, drilled connections, or separate canister. This simplifies installation and minimizes leakage risk.

Surface water intake

The upper intake removes protein, oil, and bacterial films from the water surface. A clean and moving surface improves gas exchange, oxygen transfer, and light penetration.

Correct installation height is important for reliable surface skimming. Position the intake openings close to the waterline without allowing the pump to draw air continuously.

Adjustable lower intake

The adjustable lower intake draws water and heavier suspended particles from closer to the substrate. Combined upper and lower intake allows the filter to process water from different levels of the aquarium.

Reduce the lower intake when using fine sand to prevent substrate from entering the filter.

Adjustable energy-efficient pump

Pump output is adjustable from approximately 250 to 850 l/h. This allows circulation to be matched to aquarium size, livestock, and filtration requirements.

Power consumption is only approximately 2.5–4.5 W. Low energy use reduces operating costs and limits heat transfer into the aquarium.

Large filter-media chamber

The media chamber provides approximately 780 cm³ of capacity. It can hold different combinations of:

• Fine or coarse filter wool
• Filter sponge
• Porous biological media
• Activated carbon
• Phosphate remover
• Silicate remover
• Other aquarium filtration media

Filter media and reusable bags for activated carbon or other loose materials are included.

Optional heater installation

A compatible thermostatic heater up to 75 W can be installed inside the filter housing. Water passing through the filter distributes heat efficiently, while the housing helps protect aquarium animals from direct contact with the heater.

Check heater dimensions and compatibility before installation.

Osmolator compatibility

Tunze Osmolator 3155 can be integrated with the filter housing. This provides a tidy location for the water-level sensor and supports a stable water level.

The Osmolator system is sold separately.

The heater, Osmolator system, activated carbon, and optional specialist media are sold separately.

Installation and maintenance

1. Select a location on the rear or side glass.
2. Confirm that the glass is no more than 12 mm thick.
3. Rinse the supplied media when necessary.
4. Fill the chamber with suitable filtration media.
5. Position the internal filter assembly.
6. Bring the external magnet towards the glass from the side.
7. Adjust the filter height for effective surface intake.
8. Set the lower intake according to the substrate.
9. Begin with moderate pump output.
10. Increase the flow gradually.
11. Create a drip loop in the power cable.
12. Start the pump only when fully submerged.
13. Check surface skimming and overall circulation.

Clean mechanical media according to aquarium load. Rinse biological media gently in removed aquarium water and avoid replacing all established media at once.
