Tunze Comline® Streamfilter 3163

Tunze Comline Streamfilter 3163 is a multifunctional internal filter for cleaning, circulating, and surface-skimming aquarium water. It combines mechanical and biological filtration, surface intake, lower-zone intake, and a Turbelle nanostream propeller pump.

The filter mounts directly to the rear or side glass with the included Magnet Holder. Its internal construction requires no external hoses, drilled connections, or separate canister, reducing leakage risk and simplifying installation.

The unit is suitable for freshwater and marine aquariums from 60 to 400 litres, depending on biological load. Final sizing should consider actual water volume, livestock, feeding, decoration, and maintenance requirements.

Surface and lower-zone intake

The filter draws water from the surface and lower section of the aquarium. Surface intake removes protein, oil, and bacterial films that may reduce gas exchange and light penetration.

The adjustable lower intake captures heavier particles and sediment closer to the substrate. Adjust the lower intake so that it collects debris without drawing excessive sand or gravel into the filter.

Filtration and broad circulation

The Turbelle nanostream propeller pump provides approximately 1,800 l/h of broad water movement. The wide output circulates water around plants, rockwork, corals, and decorations without producing an excessively narrow jet.

Effective circulation distributes oxygen and nutrients, reduces stagnant zones, and directs suspended waste towards the filter intakes.

Large filter-media capacity

The filter chamber provides approximately 780 cm³ of media capacity. It can hold different combinations of mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration media.

Suitable options include:

• Fine or coarse filter wool
• Filter sponge
• Porous biological media
• Activated carbon
• Phosphate remover
• Other aquarium-specific filter media

Filter media and reusable bags for activated carbon or other loose media are included.

Energy-efficient operation

The propeller pump consumes only approximately 3.5 W. Low power consumption reduces operating costs and heat transfer into the aquarium.

The filter is designed for continuous operation. Switching it off overnight may reduce oxygen delivery to the beneficial bacteria living inside the filter media.

Magnetic mounting

The included Magnet Holder is suitable for aquarium glass up to 12 mm thick. Magnetic installation provides secure mounting, accurate height adjustment, and easy removal for maintenance.

Optional heater installation

A thermostatically controlled heater up to 75 W can be installed inside the housing. The water flowing through the filter distributes heat efficiently while the housing helps protect aquarium animals from direct contact with the heater.

Confirm heater dimensions and compatibility before installation.

Osmolator compatibility

Tunze Osmolator 3155 water-level control can be integrated into the filter housing. This provides a tidy location for the water-level sensor and supports stable water level and salinity.

The Osmolator system is sold separately.

The heater, Osmolator system, activated carbon, and optional specialist media are sold separately.

Installation and maintenance

1. Select a position on the rear or side glass.
2. Confirm that the glass is no more than 12 mm thick.
3. Rinse the filter media when required.
4. Place the media inside the filter chamber.
5. Position the internal filter assembly.
6. Bring the external magnet towards the glass from the side.
7. Set the correct height for surface intake.
8. Adjust the lower intake.
9. Direct the pump output to circulate the entire aquarium.
10. Confirm that the flow does not disturb substrate or livestock.
11. Create a drip loop in the power cable.
12. Start the filter only when the pump is fully submerged.
13. Check surface skimming and lower-zone circulation.
14. Adjust the installation when required.

Clean the filter media according to aquarium load. Rinse biological media gently in removed aquarium water and avoid replacing all established media at once.
