Tunze Comline® DOC Skimmer 9004 DC

Tunze Comline DOC Skimmer 9004 DC is an internal protein skimmer designed to remove dissolved organic compounds before they break down into nitrate and phosphate. Its compact Comline construction is particularly suitable for marine aquariums without a separate filtration sump.

Fine air bubbles attract proteins, fats, and other organic substances. The bubbles transport these compounds into the foam reactor and removable collection cup. Effective skimming supports clear water, gas exchange, oxygenation, and stable nutrient conditions.

Adjustable DC performance

The included Turbelle Controller allows skimming performance to be matched to livestock, feeding, and organic load. The skimmer can initially operate at moderate output and be gradually adjusted after stable foam production develops.

Air performance is approximately 200 l/h. Normal energy consumption is approximately 5 W, with a maximum of 10 W. The cable to the controller is three metres long.

Compact internal installation

The skimmer measures 110 × 90 × 305 mm and can be mounted on the rear or side glass. The included Magnet Holder is suitable for aquarium glass up to 12 mm thick.

Recommended immersion depth is approximately 225–245 mm. Correct installation height and a stable water level are important for reliable performance.

Surface intake

The Comline design draws water from the aquarium surface and helps remove protein and oil films. A clean, moving surface supports gas exchange and light penetration.

Collection cup and maintenance

The removable collection cup has a capacity of 0.2 litres. Clean the cup and its neck regularly because organic deposits gradually restrict foam movement.

The optional Holiday skimmer cup 9004.145 includes a drain connection and hose for directing skimmate into a larger external container.

Aquarium sizing

The general recommendation is 60–300 litres. More sensitive and heavily stocked reef aquariums require conservative sizing.

Approximate maximum recommendations:

• Soft coral and anemone aquariums: approximately 300 litres
• LPS and mixed reefs: approximately 180 litres
• SPS-dominated reefs: approximately 120 litres
• Heavily stocked SPS reefs: approximately 90 litres

Installation and setup

1. Select a suitable location on the rear or side glass.
2. Confirm that the glass is no more than 12 mm thick.
3. Ensure an immersion depth of approximately 225–245 mm.
4. Attach the skimmer with the Magnet Holder.
5. Adjust the unit correctly in relation to the waterline.
6. Keep the intake openings unobstructed.
7. Position the power supply and controller in a dry location.
8. Create a drip loop in the power cable.
9. Begin operation at moderate output.
10. Increase the output gradually.
11. Monitor the collection cup during initial operation.
12. Clean the collection cup and foam riser regularly.
13. Maintain the air intake, silencer, pump, and impeller.
14. Disconnect the equipment before maintenance.
