NYOS Phosi-Ex
NYOS Phosi-Ex is a powerful moist adsorber developed for controlled phosphate and silicate removal in marine aquariums. Its iron-based media captures these compounds on its surface so they can be permanently removed from the aquarium when the exhausted media is replaced.
Phosi-Ex can be used inside a media reactor or a fine filter bag. A reactor provides the most efficient contact between the aquarium water and the media, while a filter bag offers a simple solution for smaller systems.
Controlled phosphate removal
Phosphate is introduced through food, livestock waste, decomposing organic matter, rock, and substrate. Excessive phosphate can promote algae growth and interfere with calcification in stony corals.
Phosi-Ex is highly effective, so phosphate should be reduced gradually. Aquariums with a high starting concentration should begin with approximately 25–50% of the standard media quantity.
Key features
- High-performance phosphate and silicate adsorber
- Designed for marine and reef aquariums
- Iron-based media
- Moist and ready to use
- Rapid and efficient phosphate removal
- Effective silicate removal
- Helps prevent unwanted algae growth
- Helps reduce diatom growth associated with silicate
- Does not release aluminium
- Does not alter pH when used correctly
- Supports crystal-clear aquarium water
- Suitable for media reactors
- Suitable for fine filter bags
- Available in 250, 500, and 1,000 ml packages
Recommended quantity
Use:
150–200 ml per 500 litres of aquarium water.
This corresponds to approximately:
- 30–40 ml per 100 litres
- 60–80 ml per 200 litres
- 90–120 ml per 300 litres
- 150–200 ml per 500 litres
- 300–400 ml per 1,000 litres
Begin with a reduced quantity when phosphate is high or when the aquarium contains nutrient-sensitive corals.
Capacity
The stated capacity is approximately:
1,000–2,000 litres of seawater at an initial phosphate concentration of 0.5 mg/l.
Actual capacity depends on phosphate and silicate concentrations, ongoing nutrient input, water flow, contact time, and media usage.
Instructions
- Measure phosphate before use.
- Calculate the actual system water volume.
- Rinse the media gently to remove loose dust.
- Place the media inside a reactor or fine filter bag.
- Use gentle, consistent water flow.
- Do not allow the media to tumble aggressively.
- Test phosphate regularly.
- Replace the media when phosphate begins to rise.
- Do not regenerate or reuse exhausted media.
- Keep unused media moist and close the container securely.
