Varanus doreanus Blue-tailed Monitor CB M

Varanus doreanus, commonly known as the Blue-tailed Monitor, is a large monitor lizard native to New Guinea and surrounding islands. It occupies tropical rainforest habitats and spends time climbing, exploring and foraging across a wide range of environments.

The species is famous for its vibrant blue tail and impressive appearance. Adult animals can exceed one metre in length and require substantial space to thrive.

A suitable enclosure must provide extensive climbing opportunities, high humidity, strong UVB lighting and significant thermal gradients. Large custom-built enclosures are typically required for long-term success.

Due to its intelligence, activity level and demanding husbandry requirements, the Blue-tailed Monitor is best suited to experienced reptile keepers.
