Live Tubifex worms are a popular natural food for many freshwater aquarium fish. The thin, reddish worms move actively and encourage fish to search for and capture food naturally.

Tubifex provides high levels of protein and energy. It is suitable as supplementary food for growing fish, conditioning breeding fish, and supporting appetite. Its movement may also encourage shy fish and selective feeders that do not readily accept dry food.

Tubifex naturally sinks towards the bottom, making it particularly suitable for bottom-feeding species. It can be offered to Corydoras, loaches, discus, cichlids, bettas, gouramis, tetras, barbs, killifish, livebearers, and other suitably sized freshwater fish.

The movement of live Tubifex also provides enrichment. It encourages natural foraging and predatory behaviour while motivating fish to explore different areas of the aquarium.

Tubifex is supplementary food and does not replace a varied staple diet. Combine it with suitable dry foods, frozen foods, and other live feeds to provide balanced nutrition.

Before feeding, separate the worms from the transport water using a fine net or sieve. Rinse them thoroughly with clean, cool, dechlorinated water. Do not pour the transport water into the aquarium.

Offer a small quantity at a time. Excess worms may burrow into the substrate or remain uneaten. Uneaten food increases the organic load and may reduce aquarium water quality.

Always select food according to the size and mouth size of the fish. Whole Tubifex worms may not be suitable for the smallest fry.

Feeding

1. Check that the worms are alive and in good condition.
2. Remove only the quantity required for one feeding.
3. Separate the worms carefully from the transport water.
4. Rinse them with clean, cool, dechlorinated water.
5. Add a small quantity to the aquarium.
6. Feed only as much as the fish consume within a few minutes.
7. Remove visible uneaten food.
8. Use Tubifex as supplementary food within a varied diet.

Tubifex can also be offered from a suitable worm feeder. The feeder slows sinking and burrowing while allowing fish to pull out the worms gradually.

Storage and delivery

Store live Tubifex in a cool place according to the package and supplier instructions. Protect the portions from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and freezing. Check the condition of the worms before every feeding.
