A background poster for the aquarium, 60 x 30 centimetres, picture series B.

Without a background you see through the tank to whatever lies behind it: the wall, the sockets, the cables and the movement of the room. A background poster covers all of that at once and makes the tank a closed whole.

The difference is greatest in a small tank, where the back glass is near and everything behind it shows clearly.

The poster is fixed to the glass from outside and so never touches the water. Each side carries a different picture, and the poster is easily cut smaller.
