Tunze DOC Skimmer 9410 DC
Tunze DOC Skimmer 9410 DC is designed for effective nutrient control in marine aquariums. It removes dissolved organic compounds before they break down into nitrate and phosphate. Intensive mixing of air and water also supports gas exchange and oxygenation.
The skimmer is suitable for fish-only marine aquariums, soft coral systems, LPS reefs, mixed reefs, and appropriately sized SPS aquariums. The practical maximum aquarium size depends on coral sensitivity, fish population, feeding, and additional nutrient export methods.
The nominal maximum recommendation is 1,200 litres. This rating is primarily intended for marine aquariums with relatively low sensitivity to dissolved organic compounds. More sensitive reef systems require a substantial reduction in the recommended aquarium volume.
Effective organic waste removal
Marine aquariums constantly accumulate organic compounds from fish waste, uneaten food, coral mucus, and decomposing material. DOC Skimmer 9410 DC produces fine air bubbles that attract dissolved organic substances.
The bubbles rise through the reaction chamber and transport waste into the collection cup. Removing organic compounds before decomposition helps control the formation of nitrate and phosphate while supporting clear water and more stable reef conditions.
Protein skimming does not replace regular water changes, testing, or general aquarium maintenance. It does, however, form an important part of marine aquarium nutrient management.
Adjustable DC performance
Water flow is electronically adjustable up to approximately 1,200 l/h. Air performance can be adjusted up to approximately 750 l/h.
Adjustable output makes it possible to match the skimmer to the actual biological load. Lower output may be useful during the initial running period, with low fish stocking, or when the skimming is excessively wet. Higher output can be selected as feeding, livestock, and organic load increase.
The Turbelle Controller provides convenient control of pump performance. Final adjustment should be based on foam structure, collected waste, and measured aquarium nutrient levels.
Energy-efficient compact construction
Maximum power consumption is approximately 16 W. The efficient pump is economical for continuous operation.
Without the post-filter, the skimmer measures 250 × 180 × 415 mm. Its relatively compact footprint makes installation possible in many aquarium cabinets and sump systems.
Before purchase, check both the available sump footprint and the service clearance above the skimmer. Additional vertical space is required for removing and cleaning the collection cup.
Collection cup
The collection cup has a capacity of approximately 0.7 litres. It can be removed for convenient emptying and cleaning.
Clean the collection cup neck regularly. Organic deposits gradually restrict foam movement and reduce skimming performance.
The speed at which the cup fills depends on aquarium load and adjustment. Wet skimming produces lighter liquid more rapidly, while dry skimming creates darker and more concentrated waste.
Post-filtration
DOC Skimmer 9410 DC can use a post-filter to capture fine suspended particles after skimming. Post-filtration may also help reduce the number of microbubbles returning to the aquarium system.
Clean the post-filter material regularly. Clogged material can restrict flow and accumulate organic waste.
Aquarium sizing
The nominal aquarium recommendation should be reduced according to reef sensitivity and biological load.
- Soft coral, leather coral, and anemone aquariums: up to approximately 1,200 litres
- LPS and mixed reef aquariums: up to approximately 720 litres
- SPS-dominated reef aquariums: up to approximately 480 litres
- Heavily stocked SPS aquariums: up to approximately 360 litres
These recommendations are approximate. Intensive feeding, a large fish population, or using the skimmer as the primary nutrient export system may require even more conservative sizing.
