NYOS Nitrate Reefer test

NYOS Nitrate REEFER Test Kit is designed specifically for accurate and reproducible nitrate measurement under marine-water conditions. It is suitable for low-nutrient SPS aquariums, LPS systems, mixed reefs, and more heavily stocked marine-fish aquariums.

Nitrate is produced during the biological processing of nitrogen compounds from fish waste, uneaten food, and decomposing organic material. Regular testing helps evaluate feeding, filtration, water changes, skimmer performance, refugium operation, and biological nutrient management.

Measurement range

The test measures:

1–160 mg/l NO₃

The colour scale provides differentiated gradations in the lower measurement range, supporting the monitoring of nutrient-sensitive reef aquariums.

Seawater-calibrated colour chart

The full-spectrum colour chart is professionally calibrated for seawater conditions. A dark background improves contrast, while the sliding comparator positions the reacted sample and untreated reference water together for easier colour comparison.

Reproducible measurement

A calibrated dropper supports consistent drop size between measurements. The reagents are manufactured in Germany according to EN ISO 9001 and are checked using AAS- and NIST-based standards. Strict batch and quality controls support repeatable results.

Testing instructions

1. Rinse both sample tubes with aquarium water.
2. Fill the tubes according to the enclosed instructions.
3. Keep one tube untreated as the reference sample.
4. Add the reagents to the other tube in the specified order.
5. Hold the dropper vertically.
6. Add only complete, evenly sized drops.
7. Mix the sample as instructed.
8. Observe the reaction time precisely.
9. Position both tubes in the sliding comparator.
10. Compare the colour under neutral white light.
11. Move the comparator until the sample matches the colour chart.
12. Read and record the nitrate concentration.
13. Rinse the tubes immediately after use.
14. Close and store the reagents carefully.
