Green Iguana (Iguana iguana)
Iguana iguana, commonly known as the Green Iguana, is a large arboreal lizard native to Central and South America.
This species spends much of its life climbing through trees in tropical habitats near rivers and other water sources. Young animals are typically bright green, while older individuals may develop a variety of colours including grey, blue or orange shades.
Green Iguanas require very large enclosures, powerful UVB lighting, elevated basking areas and high humidity. Their long-term care should always take adult size into account.
The species is predominantly herbivorous and thrives on a varied diet of leafy greens, vegetables and edible flowers. Proper calcium supplementation is essential for healthy growth and skeletal development.
Due to its size and specialized care requirements, the Green Iguana is best suited to dedicated reptile keepers.
