A light background works the opposite way to a dark one. It makes the colours of most fish look paler, but it brings out the dark species – black catfish and dark cichlids, for instance – which vanish against a dark background.

A light background also reflects light back into the tank and makes it look brighter, which suits a well-lit planted tank.

The poster is double-sided, so the tone can be chosen by turning it.
