JBL proscape shrimps soil brown 3l

A soil substrate for shrimp aquariums, 3 l, brown. The nutrient-free version.

Why nutrient-free: shrimps react sensitively to nutrient levels in the water, and a fertilised soil releases ammonium at the start. This version contains no added nutrients, so the tank becomes safe for shrimps sooner.

Effect on the water: the soil lowers carbonate hardness and makes the water slightly acidic. That is exactly the water most ornamental shrimps – bee and crystal shrimps, for example – need, and it is hard to achieve by any means other than the substrate.

The grain size is medium, which keeps water moving in the bed and the roots oxygenated. Plants get nutrients and minerals immediately.

Note: a soil's effect on water values does not last forever. When its buffering capacity is exhausted over the years, the values gradually return to where they started.
