Waterbox Reef LX

Waterbox REEF LX is one of the largest and most advanced marine aquarium systems in the Waterbox range. It is designed for aquarists seeking a spacious, technically refined reef aquarium without planning every structural component as a completely custom installation.

Several sizes are available, allowing the system to be selected according to the available space, planned livestock, and reef structure. The generous display provides extensive swimming room for larger marine fish and a broad area for creative aquascaping and coral placement.

Ultra clear glass display

The display aquarium is constructed from ultra clear low iron glass. Reduced green coloration improves visual clarity and allows the natural colours of fish, corals, and reef structures to remain vivid.

Precision finished glass panels are bonded with durable black silicone. Euro bracing reinforces the large display and provides structural support against the pressure created by the substantial water volume.

A custom fitted mesh lid is included to help prevent fish from jumping. The mesh allows aquarium lighting to pass through efficiently while maintaining ventilation and gas exchange above the water surface.

Central glass overflow

Waterbox REEF LX uses a centrally positioned glass overflow box. The overflow collects surface water and directs it into the sump for filtration and circulation.

Its compact design minimizes the amount of display space occupied by the overflow. The central location keeps both aquarium ends open and supports balanced reef structures across the complete length of the display.

Dual adjustable return nozzles direct filtered water back into the aquarium. The nozzles can be positioned to improve distribution across different areas of the display.

Practical plumbing system

The plumbing system is designed for straightforward installation. Quick connect fittings simplify assembly and remove the need to glue the standard plumbing components.

A precision overflow valve allows the water level and flow to be adjusted for quieter operation. Correct adjustment provides stable circulation between the display aquarium and sump.

An integrated manifold provides connections for compatible accessories. Media reactors, carbon reactors, and other suitable equipment can be connected without requiring a separate pump for every device.

A check valve helps reduce water flowing back into the sump when the return pump stops. The system must still be configured with sufficient empty sump capacity to receive all water returning during a power failure or maintenance shutdown.

Versatile sump

Waterbox REEF LX includes a tiered sump with dedicated areas for mechanical filtration, a protein skimmer, media reactors, a refugium, and the return pump.

The mechanical filtration chamber uses large filter socks to capture suspended waste and organic particles. The chamber can also be adapted for many popular automatic filter rollers.

A spacious equipment chamber accommodates powerful protein skimmers and other marine aquarium equipment. Select the equipment according to the total system volume, livestock, and nutrient load.

A dedicated refugium section provides space for macroalgae, live rock, or other biological filtration media. A refugium can support nutrient export and provide habitat for beneficial marine microorganisms.

An integrated top off reservoir supports the installation of an automatic top off system. Replacing evaporated freshwater automatically helps maintain a more stable water level and salinity.

Aluminium framed cabinet

REEF LX is supplied with a fully assembled cabinet featuring a strong aluminium frame. The structure is designed to support the substantial weight of the aquarium while resisting the humid conditions created by a marine system.

Adjustable high capacity feet make it possible to level the complete installation. The cabinet and aquarium must be level from side to side and from front to back before the system is filled.

A separate electrical compartment provides an organized area for controllers, power supplies, and electrical components. Keeping electrical equipment separated from the sump reduces clutter and improves protection from splashes.

Depending on the model and available selection, cabinet colours can include black and white. The clean exterior allows the large reef display to remain the visual focus of the installation.

Installation and setup

Waterbox REEF LX is an exceptionally large and heavy aquarium system. Confirm the structural capacity of the installation area before ordering. Consider the total weight of the aquarium, cabinet, sump, water, rock, substrate, and equipment.

1. Confirm that the floor can safely support the complete system.
2. Plan the delivery route to the final installation location.
3. Measure doors, corridors, corners, and stairways.
4. Position the cabinet on a stable and load bearing surface.
5. Level the cabinet in every direction.
6. Lift the aquarium into place with sufficient people and suitable equipment.
7. Install the sump and plumbing according to the instructions.
8. Inspect every plumbing connection.
9. Test the complete system with freshwater.
10. Test the overflow, return lines, and back siphon volume.
11. Adjust the overflow valve for quiet operation.
12. Confirm that the sump cannot overflow when the return pump stops.
13. Remove the test water and prepare the marine aquarium.
14. Cycle the biological filtration before adding fish and corals.
