Douglas fir bark for the terrarium floor, 26.4 l. 100% natural (Pseudotsuga menziesii, France), made in the EU.

The bark keeps terrarium humidity steady: it takes up the water you add and releases it slowly again. Peaks and troughs in humidity are levelled out, which makes shedding easier.

The size and shape of the bark particles encourage digging and burrowing. The same particle size also discourages crickets from hiding in the substrate – an escaped cricket disturbs the animal at night and otherwise dies in the terrarium.

The bark is extensively tumbled, which smooths the pieces and removes dust, and then heat-treated to reduce bacterial contamination.

Use: spread a 3 to 5 cm layer on the terrarium floor. Water or mist according to the humidity your species requires. The small chip size conducts heat well even when dry, so a substrate heater works through it. Spot clean daily, rinse the bark in hot water for intermediate cleaning and replace it completely every 8 weeks or when necessary.
