Salifert Nitrite profi NO2 test

Nitrite is an intermediate compound in the aquarium nitrogen cycle. In an established biological filter, ammonia is converted first to nitrite and then to nitrate. Detectable nitrite may indicate that the biological filter is immature, damaged or unable to process the current organic load.

The specialised Salifert formula is designed to minimise interference from amines and amino acids, which may cause some nitrite tests to produce falsely low results. Full colour development takes approximately three minutes.

Directions

1. Rinse the test vial with the water to be tested.
2. Add 1 ml of the water sample.
3. Add one level scoop of NO2 powder.
4. Use two level scoops when carbonate hardness exceeds 14 dKH.
5. Swirl gently for 20 seconds.
6. Allow the sample to stand for three minutes.
7. Place the open vial on the white section of the colour chart.
8. Compare the colour from above for the standard range.
9. For higher sensitivity, compare the colour through the side of the vial.
10. Hold the white section of the chart against the opposite side.
11. Divide the side-view chart result by ten.
12. Confirm whether the supplied chart reports NO₂ or NO₂-N.
13. Rinse all test equipment after use.
