Salifert KH/Alkalinity Profi Test is a precise titration test for measuring carbonate hardness and alkalinity in marine, freshwater and pond water. Its sharp colour transition and approximate resolution of 0.3 dKH make small changes easy to detect. Depending on the selected test mode and sample alkalinity, the kit provides approximately 100–200 tests.
The Salifert KH/Alkalinity Profi Test is particularly useful in reef aquariums, where alkalinity stability affects pH buffering and the formation of coral skeletons.
A colour indicator is added to the water sample, followed by KH reagent from the titration syringe. The reagent is added drop by drop until the sample changes from blue-green to orange-red or pink. The remaining reagent in the syringe is converted into dKH or meq/l using the included table.

Technical information
- Product: Salifert KH/Alkalinity Profi Test
- Test type: liquid titration test
- Parameters: carbonate hardness and alkalinity
- Units: dKH and meq/l
- Standard sample volume: 4 ml
- Lower-resolution sample volume: 2 ml
- Approximate number of tests: 100–200
- Suitable water types: marine, freshwater and pond water
Directions
- Add 4 ml of water to the test vial.
- Shake the KH-Ind bottle and add two drops.
- Attach the plastic tip to the 1 ml syringe.
- Draw KH reagent until the lower edge of the black piston is at 1.00 ml.
- Add reagent drop by drop while swirling the vial.
- Stop when the colour changes from blue-green to orange-red or pink.
- Hold the syringe with the tip upward.
- Read the remaining reagent at the upper edge of the black piston.
- Determine the result from the included table.
The result may also be calculated:
KH in dKH = (1 − syringe reading) × 16
Alkalinity in meq/l = (1 − syringe reading) × 5.71
For the lower-resolution mode, use 2 ml of sample and one indicator drop, then multiply the result by two.
