Salifert Silicate profi test

The test uses two liquid reagents and one powdered reagent to produce a colour proportional to the dissolved silicate concentration. Low concentrations are read through the side of the vial, while higher concentrations can be measured by viewing the sample from above and multiplying the chart result by five.

The test is suitable for checking aquarium water, tap water, reverse-osmosis water, deionised water and newly mixed saltwater.

Directions

1. Add 1 ml of the water sample to the test vial.
2. Add four drops of Si-1.
3. Swirl gently for ten seconds.
4. Allow the sample to stand for five minutes.
5. Add four drops of Si-2.
6. Swirl gently for ten seconds.
7. Allow the sample to stand for one minute.
8. Add one level scoop of Si-3 powder.
9. Swirl gently for 20 seconds.
10. For low concentrations, compare the colour through the side of the vial.
11. Hold the white section of the colour chart against the opposite side.
12. For higher concentrations, place the vial on the white section and view it from above.
13. Multiply a top-view result by five.
14. Rinse all test equipment thoroughly after use.
